Spiral Energy & Snail Wisdom:

“I wanted to share this story about Spiral Energy and Snail Wisdom because it made my heart smile and my soul sing. It’s a reminder that even in those dark moments of despair, the smallest signs can teach us the biggest life lessons if we only stay open to receiving the message…”

The spiral is one of the most ancient and enduring symbols of all time.  There is a reason it is prevalent in various archaeological sites around the world, often associated with ancient cultures and their artistic or symbolic expressions. It represents the winding journey of life, the cycles of learning and our connection to the cosmos itself. It’s no coincidence then that spirals are also ubiquitous in nature.  Spirals are found in shells, plants, hurricanes, galaxies, and even the double helix structure in our very own DNA. But we only have to open our back door to find a common garden snail with a beautiful spiral on its back! If you want to read more about what Spiral Energy and Snail Wisdom might mean to you. Read on!

“The path of life is never a straight line. It’s a spiral. We are continually coming back to things we thought we understood to see deeper truths. At any time we can spiral up or spiral down…If you feel like you are spiralling out of control, please get in touch…”

The Significance of Spiral Energy!

My personal power sign has always been the spiral. It started showing up for me when I was quite young when I discovered the most amazing huge ammonite fossil in an abandoned local quarry (which I then spent weeks examining and drawing.)

I then became rather fascinated by the way the spiral appears in so many ancient cultures in different locations all over the planet from the prehistoric stone carvings on the Newgrange monument in Ireland, to the Nazca Lines in Peru or The Great Serpent Mound in the USA. There is no doubt that the spiral symbolises a deep connection to natural cycles, spirituality, and the cosmos and it has become an important symbol of enduring hope and comfort for me ever since.

When I first set out on my path of discovery, I remember a very wise teacher telling me that Spiral Energy would play an important role in my life and work, and they weren’t wrong. I believe at its core it represents the winding internal journey we must all take inside if we are to ever truly know and love ourselves…

Ancient Spiral Symbols Across The Globe

Some of the most famous and oldest examples of spiral symbols in ancient cultures, reflecting their deep connection to natural cycles, spirituality, and the cosmos include.

SPIRAL SYMBOL 1. The Prehistoric Newgrange Monument in Ireland.

This dates back to around 3200 BCE, which features spirals carved into the stones. The triple spiral, or triskele, is particularly significant and is thought to represent a variety of concepts, including life, death, and rebirth, or the interconnectedness of earth, water, and sky.

SPIRAL SYMBOL 2. The Chaco Canyon, USA: Located in New Mexico.

This site contains numerous petroglyphs, including spirals, created by the Ancestral Puebloans. These spirals are believed to be astronomical markers or representations of migration routes.

SPIRAL SYMBOL3. Nazca Lines, Peru.

The spiral is one of the many geoglyphs etched into the Nazca Desert. These massive designs, created by the Nazca culture between 500 BCE and 500 CE, are still a subject of much speculation, with theories ranging from astronomical to religious significance.

SPIRAL SYMBOL 4. The Great Serpent Mound, USA.

This prehistoric effigy mound in Ohio is shaped like a serpent with a coiled tail. The serpent’s body contains spirals, and the site is associated with the Adena culture (circa 1000 BCE to 200 CE). The spiral is thought to symbolize fertility and the cyclic nature of life.

SPIRAL SYMBOL 5. Petroglyphs in Arizona, USA

The Hohokam culture, which flourished from 200 to 1450 CE, left behind numerous petroglyphs, including spirals. These symbols are often found on rocks in the southwestern United States and are believed to have ceremonial or navigational purposes.

SPIRAL SYMBOL 6. The Malta Temples.

The Megalithic Temples of Malta, built between 3600 BCE and 2500 BCE, are adorned with spiral carvings. These symbols are thought to be connected to religious or ritualistic activities.

SPIRAL SYMBOL 7. The Orkney Islands, Scotland.

The Neolithic village of Skara Brae and other sites in the Orkney Islands feature spiral carvings. These symbols are indicative of the sophisticated art and culture of the prehistoric inhabitants.

Spiral Energy in Nature and the Cosmos

It’s no coincidence that spirals are also ubiquitous in nature itself, often found in shells, plants, hurricanes, galaxies, and even the double helix structure in our very own DNA. Spiritually, this connection reinforces the idea that Spiral Wisdom or Spiral Energy is a fundamental aspect of the natural world and the universe. It suggests a harmonious relationship between human beings and the cosmos.

We often notice spirals in nature, on plants, fossils, flowers, and even wildlife. And if we look just a little bit closer we will be amazed by how frequently they appear. Just recently on a holiday to my spiritual home in Cornwall, I took great delight in collecting spiral sea shells on the seashore to remind me of my favourite little symbol. It was the perfect way to while away the hours as I played with my dog on the sand and watched the waves lapping on the shore. No pressure. No rush. Just a very simple connection with the landscape and the beauty of the moment. A wonderful reminder to slow down and be present.

The Healing Power of Spiral Energy!

Spiral Energy is often interpreted as a form of life force or spiritual wisdom that flows in a spiral or helical pattern. This concept appears in various spiritual traditions and practices, embodying a range of symbolic meanings and practical applications.

In energy healing practices, such as Reiki or chakra healing, Spiral Energy is believed to be a powerful force that can cleanse, balance, and invigorate the body’s energy systems. Practitioners may visualise or channel Spiral Energy to facilitate healing and spiritual well-being.

In Hindu and yogic traditions, on the other hand, the concept of Kundalini energy is often depicted as a coiled serpent at the base of the spine. As this energy awakens and ascends through the chakras, it is said to move in a spiral motion, unlocking spiritual potential and higher states of consciousness.

Spiral Energy & The Path of Transformation

Spiral Energy represents a path of transformation. It suggests that spiritual growth is not linear but involves revisiting and reworking aspects of the self, deepening understanding, and achieving higher levels of awareness. This ongoing process of transformation is central to many spiritual philosophies.

Spirals are also a key element in sacred geometry, which explores the spiritual significance of geometric shapes. The spiral’s form is also associated with divine proportion and the Golden Ratio, symbolising the interconnectedness of all things and the infinite nature of the universe.

In summary, spiritually, Spiral Energy or Spiral Wisdom is a metaphor for the dynamic, cyclical nature of life and spiritual growth. It represents the flow of energy through the universe and within individuals, embodying principles of evolution, healing, wisdom and transformation.

My own Spiral Energy Story

So how does this all relate to my little tale? Well, I was having a bit of a tough time. A new project I had started wasn’t going quite the way I had so meticulously planned and everything I was doing felt like wading through treacle! Sound familiar! Sometimes the best laid plans and all that… Clearly my plan and my time schedule weren’t aligning with the universe’s plan or time scale!

I was beginning to feel a bit like I was off track and disconnected. The relaxed calm trusting feeling that I had experienced while collecting spiral sea shells on my beach holiday seemed very far away as did my connection to where I was going and what I was doing. I could feel old fear patterns bubbling up to the surface and so, I asked the universe for help and to send me a clear sign that everything was going to be OK.

My own Spiral Energy Sign

I needed to get out of my head and change my energy but was feeling in a bit of a bad mood so I decided to go for a swim. I got to the changing room at my local swimming pool. My head still buzzing as I undressed and put all my clothes in a neat pile along with my shoes in a completely empty locker and decided to do a meditative swim and just try and empty my head.

It was just what I needed. As always, I found the gentle water rejuvenating and calming and as I swam, I continued to ask the universe to send me a sign. After I finished, I showered and went back to the changing room. I opened my locker and retrieved my clothes and started getting dressed already thinking about what I was going to make for dinner. But when I put my foot back in my first shoe, I felt something inside.

Maybe it was a stone? Or a pebble? It was quite big and there it was no way it had been there before. I had worn those shoes on the way over and there was nothing inside them then. And the locker had been completely empty and locked when I’d left it just half an hour before.

A little bewildered. I peered inside and guess what I discovered? You guessed it… A snail…with the most beautiful spiral on it…

The Magic of the Mysterious Snail

To this day I have absolutely no idea how that little fellow got into that empty locker and inside my shoe but as I pulled the snail out (still perfectly intact and very much alive!) it just made the whole thing even more magical. To everyone else it probably would have seemed very unremarkable indeed but to me on that dark day when I needed a little glimmer of hope the universe sent me a perfect spiral sign! That I will always remember…

After all my rushing around and worries about meeting deadlines, the significance of Snail Wisdom also didn’t go unnoticed. As well as the spiral shape of a snail’s shell being symbolic of growth and evolution. The spiritual meaning of Snail Wisdom itself is also rich with symbolism and offers insights into various aspects of life and personal growth which might resonate too. As I thanked Mr Smail for his message and popped him in the nearest bit of green shrubbery I went home determined to find out more about Snail Wisdom too…

Snail Wisdom & Patience and Perseverance

Snails are known for their slow and steady pace. Spiritually, Snail Wisdom encourages patience and persistence. It’s a reminder to take life one step at a time and trust the process. It teaches that progress might be slow, but consistent effort will eventually lead us to success. This was such an important lesson for me at this point because I was getting so frustrated that things weren’t materialising quickly enough on the work front.

Moving slowly and deliberately, snails embody mindfulness and living in the present moment. So, Snail Wisdom is also a clear message that sometimes we simply need to take stock, slow down and savour life’s experiences. Allowing ourselves to be fully present in each moment. A wise lesson we can all benefit from.

Snail Wisdom – Introspection, Inner Work and Healthy Boundaries

The snail’s reclusive nature, often retreating into its shell, also reminds us of the need for introspection and inner reflection. Snail Wisdom invites individuals to look within, to contemplate our inner thoughts and feelings, and gain deeper self-awareness.

A snail’s shell is also a symbol of protection and safety. Spiritually, Snail Wisdom highlights the importance of setting healthy boundaries and protecting oneself from negative influences. It emphasises the need to create a safe, nurturing space for personal growth and well-being.

Snail Wisdom – A reminder to stay grounded and flexible

Snails are often also associated with the earth and natural cycles. Their presence reminds us to stay grounded and connected to nature. Snail Wisdom promotes a harmonious relationship with the environment and an appreciation for the natural world.

Despite its slow pace, a snail can navigate various terrains and adapt to its surroundings. This signifies resilience and adaptability in the face of challenges. Snail Wisdom encourages flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances.

Snail Wisdom – Simplicity and Contentment

Last but not least let us not forget that snails carry their homes on their backs, symbolising simplicity and self-sufficiency. Spiritually, this teaches us the value of contentment with what one has and finding happiness in simplicity. By embracing Snail Wisdom, individuals can learn to navigate life’s journey with patience, protect their inner peace, and grow through introspection and adaptability. It encourages a deeper connection to oneself and the natural world, fostering a balanced and mindful approach to life.

Who knew one little snail could impart such huge life lessons!

YOUR OWN GUIDED SPIRAL MEDITATION

Here’s a guided spiral meditation designed to help you connect with spiral energy, promoting relaxation, spiritual growth, and inner balance. You can either read this meditation to yourself or record it and play it back during your practice.

1. Find a quiet, comfortable place where you won’t be disturbed.
2. Sit or lie down in a relaxed position. Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths, inhaling through your nose and exhaling through your mouth.
3. Allow your body to relax, releasing any tension from your muscles.

Spiral Meditation:

1. Ground or earth yourself
Begin by visualising golden roots growing from the soles of your feet, reaching deep into the Earth. Feel the connection to the Earth’s core, drawing in grounding energy. Let this energy flow up through your body, grounding you and providing a stable foundation for your meditation.

2. Focus on your Breath
Focus on your breath. With each inhale, imagine drawing in positive, cleansing energy. With each exhale, release any negativity or stress. Allow your breathing to become slow and rhythmic.

3. Visualising the Spiral
Imagine a spiral in your mind’s eye. This spiral can be any size, colour, or direction that feels right for you. It may start small and expand outward or begin large and draw inward. Imagine it gently spinning.

4. Connecting with Spiral Energy
As you focus on the spiral, imagine it as a channel of energy. See it swirling with vibrant, radiant light. This is the spiral energy. Feel its dynamic flow, representing growth,

5. Journey Through the Spiral
Imagine yourself traveling along the path of the spiral. As you move, feel yourself journeying deeper into relaxation and inner peace. With each turn of the spiral, let go of any worries or distractions. Allow the spiral to carry you to a place of calm and clarity

6. Affirmations
As you continue to journey along the spiral, silently repeat affirmations to yourself. You might say, “I am connected to the energy of the universe,” “I am growing and evolving,” or “I am balanced and at peace.”

7. Healing and Transformation
Visualise the spiral energy flowing through your body. See it moving through each of your chakras, cleansing and balancing them. Feel the energy healing any areas of discomfort or imbalance, transforming negativity into positive, vibrant energy.

8. Integration
As you near the end of your journey through the spiral, take a moment to absorb the energy and insights you have gained. Feel this spiral energy integrating into every cell of your being, bringing a sense of wholeness and unity.

9. Returning
Slowly begin to bring your awareness back to your physical surroundings. Wiggle your fingers and toes, and take a few deep breaths. When you’re ready, open your eyes, feeling refreshed and revitalized.
